Lorine Chia Releases New Music Video “Mood Home Alone”
Interview: Isis Nicole
During the summer of 2020, you might might remember hearing “Mood Home Alone” by Lorine Chia, 27, on Insecure Season 4 Episode 6. Now she’s bringing the single to life with a personal touch.
Releasing the song and new video for “Mood Home Alone” at a time when everyone's socially distancing, she hopes to reach those who might feel alone. “I know we are physically by ourselves right now and trust I understand living by myself as a single woman in LA with no family around, it sucks,” Chia says.
Originally from Cameroon, then later calling Baltimore, Maryland (and Cleveland, Ohio) home, when it’s all said and done, Chia just wants to laugh, make music and braid hair. Anything can happen when she dreams big. We get into how after the jump!

Isis Nicole: What has your journey in the music industry been like thus far?
Lorine Chia: Thus far it's been challenging but definitely rewarding [and] worth it. Seen a lot of highs and lows. Transitioning from having a production deal to being an independent artist was definitely a great learning experience. I learned how to successfully package and release good music [along with] content to follow, and just how to really have fun with the whole journey. Once you get through the losses you can really see the gains.
IN: I feel this. What are some of the challenges you face as a singer?
LC: Backing my music, finding balance between work, music, and life. Finding different ways to stay inspired, coming up with new ideas for releases, meeting deadlines, depression, not feeling like I'm doing enough while being overwhelmed, hoping the music is good enough, and the list goes on and on.
IN: How did you team up with Darnell?
LC: Darnell and I met back in like 2013 and have been friends ever since. One day he called me and asked if I had a manager. I said no and we just started going from there. He's very considerate for that which I appreciate because I've been needing someone to help me stay focused.
IN: What's your most favorite accomplishment this year?
LC: Getting my music licensed with Fox Sports. That's one and the year just started so I'm excited to see what happens.
IN: Who is your inspiration?
LC: Life, God, the things I experience, and the love from my family and friends.
IN: What do you want viewers to take away from your music videos?
LC: I want them to know that they are not alone especially during this pandemic. I know we are physically by ourselves right now and trust I understand living by myself as a single woman in LA with no family around, it sucks, but there are other people who really relate to these same feelings.
IN: What do you have planned next?
LC: I plan on releasing as much music as I can this year and also having my fans be a part of curating the releases. I’m super excited for that.
