In 2016, Seattle-based singer and songwriter EMI took a giant leap forward going on tour with Young Thug. Now, she's racking up thousands of views on her YouTube page over the past three years through her moody, synth-pop, brushed with Rap&B, even catching the attention of South Korea's superstars GroovyRoom HWIMIN and SIK-K.

Today, EMI drops her latest video "White Bars" directed by Trenton Barboza, that explores paranoia, money, hustle, and life choices.

Learn more about her journey, inspiration, and next moves after the jump.

Isis Nicole: What has your journey in the music industry been like thus far?

EMI:
I’m grateful. My journey has been ... everything has its ups and downs, but I always get back up. I much rather focus on the blessings and the catalog of music I’ve been stacking. This years about to be a good one.

IN: What's your most favorite accomplishment?

EMI: Still having the drive to make music and share it with people. Just a lot has happened both in my personal and my music career.

IN: What are some of the challenges you face?

EMI: The belief factor. A lot of people doubt not only my story and lyrics, but the fact that I write all my music and co-produce a good portion of it. I think there hasn't been many, if any, acts that look like me while also speaking on the world I know, and I get it. Being the first will always create doubters.

IN: Who is your inspiration?

EMI: My biological mother and father used to record songs for fun, and they always had music playing in the house. They're multi-talented. My mother passed away and my father remarried. My step-mother is a classically trained pianist, and this opened the door to a new world of music.

IN: What do you want listeners to take away from your music?

EMI: Motivation. To gain confidence and be themselves, not matter what people say. I give away a lot of free game, and I want people to make better life choices.

IN: What do you have planned next?

EMI: Take-over, the breaks over.
